UXO Clearance for Construction & Forestry Projects

UXO Clearance for Construction & Forestry Projects

Clearing the Way for Safe Development

If your site has a history that suggests a risk of unexploded ordnance (UXO) or explosive remnants of war (ERW), the ground often needs to be cleared of vegetation, stumps and obstructions before a risk assessment or survey can take place. Kingwell’s remote-controlled and armoured equipment carries out this clearance safely, preparing your site for the next stage of your project.

Remove the UXO Risk

Why UXO Risk Matters for Development

Many sites across the UK, including former military land, training areas and locations affected by wartime activity, carry a risk of UXO or ERW. UXO risk assessments are increasingly requested as part of the planning process for construction, forestry and land development projects, particularly where a site’s history points to military use. Before any risk assessment or survey can be carried out effectively, overgrown sites usually need clearing.

How Kingwell Helps

Our fleet clears trees, vegetation, stumps and redundant structures, exposing the ground so a UXO risk assessment, survey or clearance can proceed. Where required, our armoured and remote-controlled equipment can also support the clearance itself, working at a safe distance from hazardous ground. This means your site clearance and UXO preparation can be handled by one team, rather than coordinating separate contractors.

Our Equipment

Kingwell builds remote-controlled machines for the clearance of unexploded ordnance (UXO) from construction sites, brownfield land and development areas. Based in the UK, we supply robust, field-tested equipment to UXO survey and clearance contractors, civil engineering firms and infrastructure developers.

Frequently Asked Questions

UXO risk is typically assessed by a specialist surveyor based on a site’s history, including former military use, wartime bombing records and ordnance manufacture or storage. If your site falls into one of these categories, a UXO risk assessment is often recommended, and may be required as part of your planning application.

If your site is overgrown with vegetation, trees or stumps, yes. Surveyors generally need clear access to the ground to carry out an assessment, so vegetation clearance is often the first practical step.

Yes. Our fleet handles mature forestry, vegetation and stumps of any size, clearing the ground ready for survey work.

Vegetation clearance and UXO risk assessment are usually early-stage activities, carried out before detailed design or groundworks begin. Building this into your programme early can help avoid delays further down the line.

Where a risk assessment identifies a need for clearance, our armoured and remote-controlled equipment can support this work, operating at a safe distance from hazardous ground.
